- Transport operator FirstGroup offering paid summer internships for undergraduate students
- Internships are available in finance, engineering, operations management and marketing roles
- Applications open today [21 March]
Students hungry for a first foot on the career ladder are being invited to apply for an internship with one of the world’s largest transport companies.
FirstGroup, which operates First Bus and Great Western Railway, is looking for ambitious undergraduates to join as paid interns for up to 12 weeks during the summer break.
The successful applicants will put their skills to the test, working on exciting projects alongside FirstGroup’s expert teams.
Aled Williams joined FirstGroup as an intern in 2013. His placement was so successful that he later completed the company’s graduate training programme before taking up a permanent post. He has since been appointed to his current position as an operations manager.
Speaking of his internship, Aled said: “When I joined FirstGroup as an intern, I immediately gained responsibility and was immersed into a high profile operational project within the business.
“The scheme really made me realise how diverse and exciting a career in transport can be, and how quickly you can progress. Several years down the line and I’m a manager – and I’m still using the skills and experience gained on my internship, every day.”
This year’s internships cover roles in finance, engineering, operations management and marketing, and will be based in Bristol, Leeds, London, and other locations in the north of England.
Samantha Humphries, FirstGroup's internship programme manager, said: “If you’re the type of person who thrives on a challenge and always has new ideas, we want to hear from you. You’ll get involved in real projects that improve public transport for millions of our customers while earning a great salary during the summer months.
“Better still, if you make a big impact during your internship, you might continue your journey on one of our graduate programmes. This could be a summer you’ll never forget.”
Students interested in securing an internship can register on the FirstGroup website from 21 March and must complete their application by 20 April. The placements will begin in June.
There are no specific subject requirements, however applicants will need to be in the penultimate year of their studies, on a course related to the internship for which they are applying, and must be on track to achieve a degree at 2:1 level or above.
