Sustainability Analysis and Modelling for train operators and a major route upgrade

We designed, built, and ran a bespoke model that assessed the carbon emissions impact, and associated costs, of different timetable and electrification options for a major route upgrade service study. We also reviewed and developed environmental KPIs for some train companies' business plans. This included identifying process improvements for data collection, appraising different reporting tools and subsequently creating best practice reporting. Throughout the projects, communication with stakeholders was paramount to understanding current processes, their aspirations and sharing outputs.

New open access operator

We designed, mobilised and embedded the planning, control and performance function to meet a lean operator model, focused on a digital and data concept of operations. We also provided senior leadership resource for around eight months to establish operations following launch of the new services.

Traincrew diagram support

A major train company required traincrew diagramming support due to staff turnover and a vacancy gap. We provided support for six months to offer training for their new starters and help meet timescales for traincrew diagramming. While recruitment was ongoing, we also covered for a vacant senior management role to monitor delivery of timetable change bids and support the team.

Major station upgrade

An operator’s major station required investment as a result of its dated condition, a wider regeneration programme within the city and the train operator’s investment in improving rolling stock and services to the area. Our consultants developed and wrote a comprehensive business case for the city’s local authority to win funding from its Local Enterprise Partnership. We engaged with numerous stakeholders, developed a suite of options for the station upgrade, analysed these and recommended a specific option. The business case was structured and written in an appropriately compelling manner and secured the required funding. The station upgrade has since been delivered.
