First Shared Services recognised for outstanding people management

20 Sep 2018

  • First Shared Services becomes the first transport provider in the UK to achieve Investors in People platinum certification

Karen Shiels of First Shared ServicesFirstGroup’s shared services team in Aberdeen has been awarded platinum certification against the Investors in People standard, demonstrating its commitment to high performance through excellent people management.

First Shared Services, which undertakes financial transactions for the transport company’s bus and rail operations across the UK, is amongst the 1% of firms to have achieved Investors in People’s highest level of certification, as well as being the first transport provider to do so.

Investors in People is the international standard for people management, defining what it takes to lead, support and manage people effectively to achieve sustainable results.

Underpinning the standard is the Investors in People framework, reflecting the latest workplace trends, essential skills and effective structures.

Investors in People enables organisations to benchmark against the best in the business on an international scale. Introduced in 2015, Platinum is the highest level of accreditation available.

Peter Russian, Chief Executive of Remarkable – the home of Investors in People in Scotland – said: “Huge congratulations to First Shared Services on becoming the first transport provider in the UK to achieve Investors in People Platinum. Having worked with the organisation since 2009, and as one of the pilot organisations for the new Investors in People framework (Generation 6) back in 2015, we are delighted to see their ongoing commitment to their people, organisational development and sustainable success recognised by the highest of the Investors in People accolades.

“This puts them in the top 1% of Investors in People organisations. We look forward to continuing to work with First Shared Services as they strive to continuously improve, innovate and build on their success.”

Karen Nicol, First Shared Services Controller, said: “We’re thrilled to have achieved Platinum status, which places us in the top 1% of accredited organisations. Having partnered with Investors in People for 10 years, we recognise that achieving excellence in people management can really make a difference to the efficiency and performance of our business.

“I’m incredibly proud of our team and their commitment to improvement in their day-to-day work; something which is recognised in this certification.”
