On a night of glitz and glamour at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, First Aberdeen’s Cameron Dyche scooped the award for Frontline Employee of the year, while two of his colleagues from First Scotland East were highly commended in the same category.
Cameron is a relatively new driver to First Aberdeen and, at the age of just 19 years old, he had only been a driver for two months at the time of the incident on Hogmanay of 2017.
Having completed his latest trip to Torry, he was observing his layover time awaiting the start of his next journey when he noticed something very peculiar about a stagecoach bus that was passing along the road.
The bus was drifting off the road towards a gas mains next to a local block of flats and a desperate passenger trapped inside was banging on the window for urgent assistance as the driver was slumped at the wheel and motionless.
After a quick review of the situation including the passenger on board, and with little regard for his own safety, Cameron set off to help. He proceeded to board the bus from the emergency exit in the rear whilst it was still moving and once on board he immediately stopped and secured the bus. Cameron then commenced life-saving CPR on the driver until the paramedics arrived and the driver was transported to hospital.
Cameron’s story is one that has captured the hearts of friends and colleagues alike across the industry with such heroic instincts and sheer will and determination to save a passenger and fellow bus driver. We are delighted to see his efforts recognised with this prestigious award. Well done Cameron.
