More than 80,000 seats a day will run on Great Western Railway (GWR) services between London Paddington and Twyford, in support of the Henley Royal Regatta which starts tomorrow Wednesday 4 July.
With the five-day regatta continuing until Sunday 8 July, GWR will provide 8-carriage Class 387 trains to cater for the estimated 59,000 extra customers.
On Saturday, a 7-carriage shuttle train will operate between Twyford and Henley-on-Thames, with a 4-carriage train on other days; maintaining the crucial branch line connections from London Paddington.
Services are expected to be busy and passengers are asked to have their tickets ready to help the flow of people through the station. Those travelling are also warned that they may have to queue for a short period to board trains safely.
Henley-on-Thames Station Manager Alison Hanscomb said that customers may need to be patient on the busiest days and can help by having their rail ticket ready as they enter and leave stations on route.
Alison said: "We are delighted to once again transport customers to the world-renowned Henley Royal Regatta.
“While our friendly and approachable staff will be on hand to help keep people moving, I would urge passengers to allow time for their journeys, as a queuing system will be in place at both Twyford and Henley to allow passengers to board trains safely.”
Branch line stations have made customers aware of changes to services, however those commuting towards London Paddington are advised to check before they travel as there are alterations to the usual timetable.
With engineering works taking place near Oxford, a direct, hourly replacement bus service is operating between the university city and Henley. Buses depart from bus stop R3 at Oxford Station and from Henley Town Hall.
