MINNEAPOLIS— As the school year ends, hunger is an issue for many students, which is why First Student participated in the Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign. Employees collected more than 5,300 pounds of food and nearly $1,000 to benefit food shelves in the state.
First Student locations in Anoka, Brooklyn Park, Champlin and Red Wing participated in the month-long campaign. Employees held “Fill the Bus” events to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations.
“There are students in our community who depend on school meals for their primary source of nutrition,” said Phil O’Donnell, First Student Area General Manager. “We recognize that breakfast and lunch are important in contributing to the learning process throughout the school day, which is why this initiative is so important to us. We don’t want any students in our community to go without a meal this summer.”
During the FoodShare March Campaign, 300 food shelves across Minnesota received donations from businesses, community groups and congregations to help restock food shelves to feed neighbors in need.
