A group of motorcyclists from Norfolk are taking to the roads this summer to raise money for charity.
Staff from First Eastern Counties will be riding from Ness Point to Land’s End over two days to raise awareness and funds for the Royal British Legion Riders’ Branch.
From June 19 to June 21, a team of seven people will be riding more than 450 miles across the country, visiting First buses depots along the way.
Organiser, Colin Hartley, who works as a depot supervisor at First’s Lansdowne Road and Vulcan Road depots, will be joined by his wife, Christine, Norwich bus drivers Alan Brenkley and Adrian Kemp and their wives, and Colin’s brother in law Jimmy Sturman, who is also a Relief Standard Bearer.
Colin said: “We formed a group last year where we got together and went out on bike rides. When the riding season finished, we went out for a meal and started talking about what challenges we wanted to set ourselves this year. We wanted to ride from Lowestoft to Land’s End on the longest day of the year but we decided to split it over two days and raise money for charity.”
And the cause is very close to their hearts as Colin served as a driver specialist in the Army for 12 years.
“My grandfather was in the Army during the First World War and my father served in the Second World War,” Colin, who lives in Chedgrave, added.
The group is aiming to raise £1,000 for the charity.
