First Donates £80k worth of Bus Advertising Space to Macmillan

24 Mar 2014

FirstGroup, the leading transport operator in the UK and North America, has announced support worth around £80,000 to its UK Charity of Choice, Macmillan Cancer Support, as part of the next phase of Macmillan’s flagship Not Alone campaign.

More than 3,100 of First’s 6,500 bus fleet across the UK will feature interior adverts. First has donated the ad space, worth around £80,000, to Macmillan as part of its partnership.  First buses operating in Aberdeen, Bristol, Glasgow Leeds, Leicester, Manchester, Norwich, Portsmouth, Southampton, Swansea and others will feature the ads until the end of March.

Katie Smart, FirstGroup’s CSR and Community Manager, said: “FirstGroup is very proud to support Macmillan and people across the UK who are affected by cancer.  We hope our partnership with Macmillan and especially the advertising on our buses will mean that more people can be signposted to Macmillan’s fantastic services and therefore don’t have to face cancer alone.”

Sally Hill, Partnership Manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, says: “I’d like to say thank you to FirstGroup for its ongoing support of our Not Alone campaign. The advertising space on First buses will help us to reach out to many more members of local communities who are affected by cancer. We need to ensure that people are aware of the support available to them, and First’s ongoing support of our Not Alone campaign is very important as a result.”

FirstGroup forged its partnership with Macmillan in July 2012 and has so far raised more than £685,000 in cash and in kind, including the donation of advertising space, for people affected by cancer, helping Macmillan to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.
