First gives five-year-old Alfie memories for life

24 Feb 2014

A bus-mad youngster from Essex has enjoyed an access all areas trip to a local bus depot.

Five-year-old Alfie Marjoram spent a day during his half term break exploring First Essex’s Chelmsford depot with his granddad, Malcolm Part.

The pair toured the site, met the engineering and operations teams and went on a special bus ride around the area.

Malcolm said: “He is out on a bus nearly every day of the week. He loves everything about buses and has his own names for the different types.

“During the holidays, we always go somewhere together on Thursdays. He used to like trains but he prefers buses because he can see them and use them more often. He loves buses and can see them from his desk at school.”

Alfie, who lives in Galleywood, was accompanied by First mascot Freddie the Frog when they went for a ride past his school. When they returned to the depot, the vehicle was taken through the bus wash.

Alfie, who has a sight condition which means he is nearly blind in one eye, left the depot armed with goodies including a model bus, high visibility jacket, hard hat, personalised wallet and a free pass.

Malcolm thanked the team at First for organising the visit.

Managing Director of First Essex, Adrian Jones, said: “We were more than happy to welcome Alfie to our depot so he could have an insight into the industry. We are so pleased Alfie enjoyed his trip.”
