First Scotland East Drivers Support East Lothian Foodbank Monday 14 April 2014

14 Apr 2014

Drivers from local bus company, First Scotland East, showed their compassionate side recently by forfeiting a cash pay-out in order to help those more in need.

Members of the Musselburgh and North Berwick branch of Unite the Union were offered the chance to take a share of excess funds gathered by the group but chose to donate the money to a local charity instead.

The £350 sum has been given to East Lothian Foodbank to support its work providing emergency food for people in crisis.

Branch Secretary Jimmy McKerracher, a Musselburgh Driver, said: “We have done a lot to help good causes in the past but we’re keen to support more local charities. The foodbank was suggested by one of our drivers, Harry Blair, and everyone agreed it’s a great cause.

“The Chairman of the Foodbank, James Bruce, was delighted and came to the depot to shake the hand of everyone who donated.”

James added: “It means a lot for us to have the support of First staff and the money has been a great help to our charity.”
