First UK Bus has appointed Alex Carter as Managing Director for its South West business, which incorporates bus operations in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.
Alex, who has more than 30 years experience in the bus industry, has been working with First since June 2013 initiating a series of changes in these businesses as part of First’s wider UK Bus transformation programme.
Talking about his appointment Alex said: “We’ve got a very committed and talented team in the South West. I’m both proud and delighted to have the opportunity to lead them. There are some fantastic opportunities in the region to grow the business and we’ll be working hard to improve our services and encourage more people on board our buses.”
Managing Director of First UK Bus, Giles Fearnley, said: "Alex has been working closely with our local teams in the South West to review and reposition our operations. I’m pleased that he is now joining us as Managing Director for our South West business so that we can really start to implement our new agenda.”
Originally from Buckinghamshire, Alex Carter began his career in the bus industry in 1981 when he joined the National Bus Company. He has enjoyed senior roles with Stagecoach and Go Ahead, during which time he was President of Bournemouth Chamber of Trade and Commerce and Chair of the Bournemouth Tourism Management Board. Most recently Alex was Head of Transport Operations for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
