Schoolchildren learn about bus safety

10 Feb 2014

Nearly 100 children from Caister Infant and Nursery School spent a day learning about safety and transport when staff from First Eastern Counties’ Yarmouth depot paid them a visit.

Youngsters explored the iconic 1960’s Routemaster bus and learnt about its history and safety features.

Pupils toured the bus in groups of 10 and met First’s mascot, Freddie the Frog, before they walked away with a hi-visibility vest, reflective snap band and a bar of chocolate.

Headteacher Brendan McCarney said: “The children are currently learning about transport so this opportunity enabled them to experience a vintage bus which was made before the school was built. It’s a real piece of history and nostalgia.

“It has been a brilliant experience for them.”

Danny Beales, Operations Manager at First’s Yarmouth depot, said: “It was great to meet all of the bright and enthusiastic children from Caister Infant and Nursery School, they asked lots of good questions.

“We really enjoy meeting people in our local community and sharing our knowledge about safety.”
