First Scotland East Bus Driver Shortlisted for Prestigious Award

07 Apr 2014

A First Scotland East Bus Driver from Musselburgh has been shortlisted for a prestigious award.

John Lyall has been a Bus Driver in Musselburgh for more than 27 years and has earned a reputation for fantastic customer service and for supporting the local community.  John, who is also First Scotland East’s Employee Director, has been shortlisted for the prestigious, ‘Frontline Employee of the Year’ prize at this year’s Scottish Transport Awards.

John began his career as a bus driver in 1987 and in 2009 he became the company’s Employee Director after his peers elected him to represent their interests at Board level.

John, who lives in Musselburgh with his wife, Evelyn, is also well known in the local community for his charitable work.  He has raised thousands of pounds over the years for good causes such as Save the Children, Sick Kids and others.  Most recently he raised around £1,000 for cancer charity, Macmillan, by soaking in a bath of baked beans for five hours at Waverley Station in Edinburgh.

Commenting on being shortlisted at the Scottish Transport Awards, John said: "I‘m really surprised to have been shortlisted.  I love driving buses and really enjoy the interaction I have with my customers.”

Paul McGowan, First Scotland East’s Managing Director, said: “Our customers love John - we’ve lost track of the number of commendations he’s received!  He’s very much a people person which is reflected in his approach to customer service.  Everyone at First Scotland East is proud that John has been shortlisted at the Scottish Transport Awards – we hope he’ll be successful and win the Frontline Employee of the Year title.”

The Scottish Transport Awards will take place June 19 in Glasgow.
