Ian Walker, a driver for city bus operator, First Aberdeen, has been elected to the company’s Board as ‘Employee Director’.
First Aberdeen’s parent company, FirstGroup, encourages its operating companies across the UK and North America to elect Employee Directors to their Boards so that the views and opinions of staff are represented at the highest level.
Ian began his three year stint as First Aberdeen Employee Director last month.
“It is a privilege to sit on the First Aberdeen Board and act as a voice for the drivers, cleaners, engineers, mechanics and office based staff at the company,” said Ian Walker. “I’m proud and delighted that my colleagues have put their trust in me to help shape and influence the First Aberdeen Board’s strategy and decisions.”
Duncan Cameron, Director and General Manager of First Aberdeen, welcomed the appointment. “Ian has been a valuable member of our team since 1992. I am sure in engaging closely with our employees he will help develop our business further. Given his huge contribution and commitment to the company over the years I’m not surprised that he’s been elected. On behalf of the Board I’d like to extend our congratulations and we look forward to enjoying an excellent working relationship.”
Ian Walker (61) from Sheddocksley has been a bus driver for First for more than 21 years. Before that Ian enjoyed a 24 year career in the armed forces.
