The UK’s largest transport operator, FirstGroup, today revealed that it has donated £10,000 to support Save the Children’s Emergency Appeal for Syria.
Avril Gill, Marketing Manager at FirstGroup, said: “Many of our staff from across the company have expressed their concern for the thousands of children who have been affected by the civil war in Syria. Our small contribution will help keep many innocent children safe and provide them with food, water, clothing, shelter and medicine.
She continued: “Save the Children is doing an incredible job in Syria – I hope other companies will consider supporting its Emergency Appeal.”
Gareth Owen, Humanitarian Director from Save the Children, said: “As the vicious civil war in Syria comes into its third year, millions of Syria’s children are trapped at the centre, forced to leave their homes and seek refuge in other parts of Syria or to flee the country altogether. Save the Children is providing vital humanitarian relief in Syria and neighbouring countries and we are hugely grateful for the generosity of donors such as FirstGroup who are helping us to ensure that children have the essentials they need to survive, stay safe from harm, and to begin to regain a sense of normality in their lives.”
FirstGroup has supported Save the Children since 2007 and during that time has donated over £4.6 million in cash and in kind contributions.
