FirstGroup, the leading transport operator in the UK and North America, today confirmed that it is sponsoring up and coming Aberdeenshire Professional Golfer, Jordan Finlay.  The Aberdeen based company already sponsors former Open Champion and Ryder Cup veteran, Paul Lawrie.

Jordan (25 from Fraserburgh) has developed through the Paul Lawrie Junior Golf Foundation and remains affiliated with the Paul Lawrie team.  He turned professional in 2011 and plays in the Euro Pro Tour (as seen on Sky Sports).  Winner of the Scottish Alliance Championship in 2010 and former Daily Telegraph Junior Champion, Jordan has competed in tournaments in Morocco, Turkey, USA and the UK in the last few months and will shortly start a Scottish run of tournaments on the Euro Pro Tour.

Talking about the FirstGroup sponsorship, Jordan said: “I’m delighted that a company of the size, scale and reputation of First is prepared to support me.  It’s a real boost and I hope I can repay the company’s faith in me.”

He continued: “I’m really happy with how my career is developing under Paul’s guidance. I have a great team of people around me and feel that my game is moving in the right direction. The aim for this year is to gain promotion to the challenge tour for 2014.

FirstGroup’s Marketing Manager, Avril Gill, said: “We enjoy a wonderful relationship with Paul Lawrie and his Junior Golf Foundation.  I’m very pleased that we have strengthened that partnership by sponsoring Jordan.  He’s very conscientious and a genuinely great guy with amazing talent – we wish him every success.”

Paul Lawrie said: “Jordan is one of the most promising golfers that I’ve seen.  2013 and 2014 are big years for him and I’ve every confidence that he’ll continue to improve and rise through the rankings.

“To have a company like FirstGroup support him is a real coup and is a big boost to his confidence.  First has been a fantastic support to me and the Foundation over the years – I’m thrilled that our relationship is going from strength to strength.”

Jordan took some time out from practice today to provide lessons to three FirstGroup golfing fanatics.  Jordan said: “The guys have good swings and I think with a bit more time spent on the golf course they would undoubtedly lower their handicaps.”
