FirstGroup, the UK’s leading bus and rail operator, today pledged support worth around £30k to Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal by revealing a special tribute to the cancer charity on one of First Aberdeen’s double deckers.
The Aberdeen based transport operator unveiled a ‘bus wrap’ which completely covers the vehicle (except the windows) and includes a 10ft tall Colin Montgomerie, the Scottish golfer who is spearheading the campaign. The messaging featured throughout the bus’ exterior encourages the public to support the charity as it aims to bring a Maggie’s Cancer Centre to Aberdeen in 2013.
Unfortunately, Colin Montgomerie was unable to attend today’s launch due to golfing commitments, however, he said: “The bus looks fantastic and is tremendously eye catching. Having FirstGroup on board and one of its buses raising awareness of our appeal is a real boost to our campaign. The momentum continues and we are all very confident of achieving our goal of delivering a Maggie’s Centre to Aberdeen next year.”
“Maggie’s provides a tremendous source of support for people suffering with cancer and their families,” said Avril Gill, FirstGroup’s Marketing Manager. “I’m delighted that FirstGroup has joined the campaign and is supporting such a worthwhile cause.”
She continued: “The bus, which is without doubt set to be the most distinctive and easily recognised in Aberdeen, will raise awareness of Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal and will encourage people to support the charity.”
Meanwhile, Sharon O’Loan, Appeal Director for the Monty’s Maggie’s Appeal for Aberdeen said: “The bus represents the spirit of the Appeal. In addition to FirstGroup’s outstanding support, the design and photography were also given free of charge from our valued supporters and the bus features images of local people who have really gone the extra mile for us to fundraise and make the Centre possible.”
