Aberdeen based FirstGroup enjoyed a successful evening at last night’s (18 April) Scottish PLC Awards in Glasgow. The UK’s leading transport operator picked up the much sought after Sustainability Award. FirstGroup shared the award jointly with Stagecoach.
Terri Vogt, FirstGroup’s Head of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), said: “I’m delighted that our efforts to reduce our carbon footprint have been recognised by such a prestigious event.
“Public transport is very much part of the solution to climate change, however we are firmly committed to reducing the impact of our own operations. Indeed FirstGroup recently achieved the Carbon Trust Standard, which certifies organisations for real carbon reduction and commitment to ongoing reductions.”
“The award recognises all the hard work invested across the business to deliver better, greener public transport services, and the wide ranging partnerships that we’ve developed in order to achieve this. In our bus division for example, we’ve invested £160m in nearly 1,000 new buses, £27m in new ticketing technology and are commitment to reduce fuel consumption through our groundbreaking DriveGreen programme.
“Winning the Sustainability Award reflects the commitment of FirstGroup across all our companies in Scotland, the UK and North America to play our role in delivering more sustainable transport services for customers now and in the future.”
The Scotland plc Awards were launched in 1999 by Scottish Business Insider and pwc to celebrate and publicise outstanding achievements by the Scottish plc community.
