Following the sudden death of Tom Clift on Tuesday September 4, FirstGroup Managing Director UK Rail Division Vernon Barker said:
“We were extremely saddened to hear of the news of Tom’s death. Tom was recently appointed as Interim General Manager of First Hull Trains and we were looking forward to welcoming him into his new role. Tom was a railwayman for four decades, becoming a respected personality in the industry he cared about. Our thoughts are with Tom’s family and friends.”
Tom spent five years as Managing Director of open access operator Grand Central Railway, after senior management positions at Arriva Trains Wales, Pullman Rail Group and for seven years as Managing Director/General Manager at Valley Lines. Before that he had spent over 24 years working for British Railways in operational and planning roles.
