Brad Underwood recognized for outstanding industry contributions.
The Texas Transit Association has named First Transit’s Brad Underwood the state’s Outstanding General Manager of the Year. Underwood currently holds the position of executive director for the Texoma Area Paratransit System (TAPS). This recognition is given based on an individual’s outstanding contributions to the public transportation industry.
Underwood has been active in the transportation industry for four years. He began as the TAPS chairman of the board in 2007 and was named executive director in 2009. Currently, Underwood oversees 138 employees and the operations of 96 transit buses. Under his leadership, TAPS’s ridership has increased nearly 60 percent. Underwood has implemented new routes and relationships with outside organizations that have better assisted the transportation needs of his customers.
“I am humbled by this recognition and grateful for the opportunity to make a positive impact in my community,” Underwood said. “This accomplishment was a team effort. We each work hard to ensure a safe and reliable transportation service for our customers and enjoy being a part of such an active and loyal community.”
According to Frank Tobey, First Transit regional vice president, Underwood is a proven transit professional who has served his community and state well.
“Brad is an exceptional employee with the ability to inspire and motivate his employees,” Tobey said. “His dedication to his customers and employees is what separates him from others in the industry.”
Underwood attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University where he received a degree in Business Management. He has been with First Transit for nearly two years. Prior to working for First Transit, Underwood operated his own mortgage company, The Underwood Organization. In addition to his duties with First Transit and TAPS, Underwood serves as the mayor-protem for the City of Bonham, is a member of the Public Transit Advisory Committee (PTAC), sits on the board of directors for Grayson County College and is active in many other local organizations. Most recently, he was recognized by Mass Transit Magazine as one of its 2010 “Top 40 Under Forty.”
