Greyhound is the only national operator of scheduled intercity coach services in North America.
Our direct, point-to-point services, such as Greyhound Express, which now serves 1,000 city pairs in more than 135 markets across North America, are broadening the range of customers using intercity coach services.
These direct, point-to-point brands are encouraging a new, younger, passenger demographic with less interest in maintaining a private car. Passengers also feed into these point-to-point services from right across our unique nationwide network.
Despite the pandemic, there were 10,000 passenger journeys a day on Greyhound in 2020/21 on our fleet of around 1,200 vehicles. We provide a package delivery facility on our coaches and we also run food outlets in our stations.
We also continue to work to improve our environmental impact, principally through our investment in recent years in more efficient and aerodynamic buses.
Greyhound has taken several steps to transform all areas of
the customer experience over recent years through investment in technology.
Over recent years, we have enhanced our website, mobile app,
customer call handling and onboard infotainment systems, as well as bus-side
ticket scanning, which streamlines boarding times.
We have launched mobile ticketing across the entire network,
allowing customers to purchase tickets quickly and easily from our website and board a bus by simply showing their mobile device, having completed the transition to paperless boarding. The majority of our customers now buy tickets online or via our smartphone apps.
Emerging from the pandemic, Greyhound is primarily focused
on our mid to long-distance services, utilising short distance services to
support the national network. Greyhound remains focused on actively managing
operating mileage in response to changing demand as the pandemic’s impact on
our customers’ travel plans recedes.
